Precautions for the use of graphitized carburizer in foundries

2024-04-01

When using graphitized carbon raiser in foundries, the following aspects should be considered:

1. Dosage and method: The amount of carbon raiser added should be determined based on the size and temperature of the furnace. Typically, the carbon raiser is added together with scrap steel and other charge materials. In small doses, it can be placed on the surface of the molten iron or added in batches quantitatively. It is important to avoid adding large quantities to the molten iron at once to prevent excessive oxidation, which could affect the carbon-enhancing effect and potentially lead to severe damage to the castings.

2. Selection of carbon raiser: Different types of carbon raisers should be selected based on the requirements of different cast iron types. The carbon content of carbon raisers on the market usually ranges between 75-98.5, while the carbon content of graphitized carbon raisers can exceed 98.5, with sulfur content below 0.05. Choosing the appropriate carbon increaser can improve the quality of the castings.

3. Timing and method of addition: The timing of the addition of the carbon raiser should not be too early to prevent it from adhering to the bottom of the furnace and being difficult for the molten metal to absorb. Additionally, the method of addition is also important; incorrect methods could result in poor carbon-enhancing effects.

4. Quality of the carbon raiser: Attention should be paid to the absorption of the carbon raiser. Uncalcined carbon raisers may be difficult for the metal to absorb. Moreover, the ash content and particle distribution of the carbon raiser can affect its performance; products with low ash content and uniform particle distribution should be chosen.

5. Environmental and safety considerations: Environmental and safety regulations should also be taken into account when using carbon raisers to ensure operations comply with relevant laws and standards.

6. Monitoring and adjustment: Close monitoring of the metal's carbon content and casting quality should be maintained during use, with timely adjustments to the carbon raiser strategy as needed based on actual conditions.

Overall, adherence to and implementation of the above points can ensure optimal carbon-enhancing effects when using graphitized carbon raisers in foundries, while also guaranteeing the quality of the castings and the smooth progress of production.
